Hello!

Thanks for what looks to be a great Ventrilo Server Status module.  I'm trying to get it running on my friend's Joomla 1.5.8 site.

It installed fine, but the module can't seem to connect to the server.

I've browsed your forums here, and this is what I've done so far:
- Made sure we were running the Legacy extension
- Made sure the ventrilo_server ( and ventrilo_server.exe ) file were chmod 755
- Used this page to check the status, which worked: http://ventrilo.com/status.php?hostname=VOICE-IL1.BRANZONE.COM&port=3915
--- The servername and port # in that URL are for our Vent server
- I contacted support for where our Vent server is hosted ( branzone.com ) and asked them if the outgoing UDP 3915 was unblocked.  He unblocked it for me.
- Checked to see if the Vent server status need a password, and it doesn't

Do you have any suggestions on what I should check next?

The only other thing I can think of is that the web host has over hardened his PHP.

Please have the host check the php.ini and see if the "popen" function is disabled.

The following functions are disabled on our webservers: show_source, system, shell_exec, passthru, exec, phpinfo, popen, proc_open, allow_url_fopen

Do you have any other suggestions?

Since that component uses popen to connect with the Vent status, at this time without it being opened, I am sorry but the only suggestion is to move to another server if they are unwilling to open that function.

I will be working on looking at other ways to communicate with the Vent server, but I do not have an expected time frame.

First thing that is probably causing the cannot connect issue is that your host is blocking the UDP outbound 5499 port.
Also, The ventrilo_status file needs to be set to 755, or if you have SSH access "chmod +x ventirlo_status"

Next you will need to make sure that you set up the administrative options on your Ventrilo (I added the server to my test site and did not receive the information)


If that does not work, then let me know and I can assist with some testing.

hmm i have setup VT like on screen u provided but im not that expirienced in modding
im not sure i understand what i need chmode

u mean my host where i got my webpage hosted or ventrilo where is hosted ?

this is on my webhosting or there where is ventrilo hosted *?
